Employment Equity
Milu supports the initiative to achieve greater equity in the workplace
and Milu are fully committed to complying with the Employment Equity Act.
An Employment Equity Plan was submitted in 2006.The Milu Employment Equity
committee has been established to ensure Milu achieves its employment equity
objectives and proper implementation thereof.
Black Economic Empowerment
Milu have in place a five year BEE plan which has attained its third
objective of 53.53% black ownership (36.15% black female). This has been
achieved through an employee share incentive scheme which incentivises & rewards
Milu management and long standing staff members.
Of equal importance to us are the Employment Equity goals and objectives
of our clients. When procuring goods or services we utilise our discretionary
affirmative procurement policy in favour of suppliers who show a strong
commitment to Broad – Based Black Economic Empowerment as per the
Codes of Good Practice issued by the Department of Trade and Industry
based on their contributor status rating. We are committed to creating
opportunities for employment within the disadvantaged communities, e.g.,
we are actively
involved in taking work to a group called Masakhane in Hout Bay, which
provides
employment for the women from the Imizamo Yethu informal settlement.
Furthermore, when any project necessitates the employment of additional
casual staff, we call upon a group of black males who have been trained
by us to fulfil this role. As our contracted client base grows, we expect
that these casual employees will be absorbed into the company as “permanent” full
time staff members.
